Harvey has been playing blues and jazz guitar for nearly 40 years.

Hailing from London, he began playing guitar in blues and cover bands as a teenager becoming a full-time professional musician at the age of 25.

His musical journey did not start on guitar, however. Harvey grew up playing classical piano and sang in the London Boy Singers.

As a teenager he inhaled a diet of British Punk before discovering Muddy Waters. This would change the course of his life.

He then picked up the guitar and gave himself a musical education, which consisted of playing on the bandstand with UK legends such Steve Marriott (Small Faces) and Eric Bell (Thin Lizzy) as well as from living and breathing blues records.

Harvey cites that one of his greatest teachers during this time was his idol Stevie Ray Vaughan. After seeing him play live at the Hammersmith Odeon, he became transfixed, going on to transcribe all of his solos and phrasing.

Moving to Australia in 1998, Harvey continued playing professionally on the east and west coasts in blues, rock, indie and big bands.

He has played, in no particular order, with Emma Bosworth, Jackie Marshall, Angela Fabian, Big Kitty, Blind Lemon, Blind Dog Donnie, Lil Fi, The Blue Rhythm Kings, The Walters, Byron Short, Dana Gehrman, Mark D’s Big Three, Cath Butler’s Joynt Venture, The Bella Reunion,Dillon James and The River City Aces.

Being a massive Amy Winehouse fan and also left gutted after her death in 2011, Harvey created a tribute show that year, which was a sell-out success. This show featured seminal artists such as Angela Fabian, Lachlan Mitchell and Billie Western just to name a few.

In 2016, Harvey met his current song writing partner Alan Boyle to create the award-winning blues band Blues Arcadia. The band has recorded and produced two albums and have toured nationally, playing at festivals and selling out iconic venues such as the Old Museum.

After a large, fulfilling career in Music, Harvey decided that he would get his ‘paper’ qualification and is currently studying a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at the Jazz Music Institute (JMI) in Brisbane. Being only in second year, he is already playing exclusively jazz gigs for singers and instrumentalists in various formats.

Along with performing, he is also a passionate guitar and music teacher with over 14 years of experience.

Harvey’s love for Music is visceral and infectious; his colleagues, students, friends and family can attest to that.
